These Terms are the agreement between you and Money Moonshot LLC ("Money Moonshot," "we," "us"), a Washington limited liability company, covering your use of the Money Moonshot app and website (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
We have written these in plain English on purpose. Where a section matters to your money or your legal rights, we say so directly rather than burying it.
Money Moonshot is a budgeting and planning tool. It reads information about accounts you choose to connect, organizes it, does arithmetic on it, and shows you the result: budgets, spending categories, net worth, bills, debt-payoff orderings, savings goals, and suggestions built from your own numbers. It is a display and planning tool, not a financial institution.
The Service is informational and educational only. It is not financial, investment, tax, accounting, or legal advice. Money Moonshot LLC is not a registered investment adviser, broker-dealer, bank, lender, tax preparer, accountant, or law firm, and nothing in the Service creates a fiduciary, advisory, or professional relationship between us and you. Every decision you make about your money is your own. For advice about your particular situation, talk to a licensed professional.
You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding contract to use the Service. The Service is offered for personal, non-commercial use by people in the United States. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly allow anyone under 18 to create an account. If you use the Service on behalf of a business or another person, you confirm you are authorized to accept these Terms for them.
Use the Service to manage your own finances. Do not:
We may suspend or limit access if we reasonably believe you have broken these rules or that your use puts the Service, other users, or us at risk.
Connecting a bank or card requires an active paid subscription or an active free trial. On the free plan — once your trial has ended, if you have not subscribed — you cannot connect an institution, and an attempt to do so is declined. Every connection costs us a recurring fee, which is why it sits on the paid side. The rest of the app stays free: budgets, savings goals, debts you enter yourself, net worth and Autopilot guidance all keep working, and you can export everything you have at any time. Be aware of what that means: transactions come from a connected institution and there is no way to type one in, so with no connection the app has no transactions to show and spending figures stay empty.
Bank connections are handled by Plaid Inc. You enter your bank credentials directly with Plaid — we never see or store them. Connecting an account also means agreeing to Plaid's own terms and privacy policy, which govern how Plaid handles your information.
Some optional features — plan generation, what-if answers, bill and debt suggestions, alerts, and reading an account statement you photograph or upload — are produced by a third-party AI model (currently Google Gemini). We send the model the information the feature needs; we do not send it your bank credentials or access tokens. A photo or file you submit for a statement scan is processed and the result returned to you — we do not keep the image.
New accounts get a free trial of the premium features. No payment method is required to start it, and it does not turn into a paid subscription on its own — nothing is charged unless you choose to subscribe. When the trial ends, your account keeps working with the free features and your data is not deleted.
Some features require a paid subscription. Where you buy it determines who bills you and who handles refunds.
Purchases inside the iOS or Android app. Payment is charged to your Apple or Google account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically at the then-current price for the same period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends; the renewal charge is taken within 24 hours before the period ends. Manage or cancel in your device's account settings (App Store or Google Play subscription settings) — deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. Cancelling stops the next renewal; access continues through the end of the period you have already paid for. Refunds for in-app purchases are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies, and we cannot issue them on their behalf.
Purchases on the website. If we offer a subscription on the web, it is billed through our payment processor and renews automatically at the then-current price for the same period until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your account settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and you keep access until then. We do not prorate or refund partial periods, except where the law requires it or where we choose to make an exception. If something went wrong — a duplicate charge, a charge after a cancellation, a feature that did not work — write to the in-app contact form (Settings → Contact us) and we will sort it out.
Your financial data is yours. You give us a limited licence to store and process it solely to operate the Service for you — nothing more. We do not sell it and we do not use it for advertising. Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and why, and it forms part of these Terms.
You can export your data at any time from the app, and you can delete your account from Settings → Account → Delete account. Please keep your own copies of anything you need: we are not your system of record, and we do not guarantee that data can be recovered after deletion.
The Service itself — the software, design, text, and branding — belongs to us. These Terms give you permission to use it, not ownership of it. If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them freely.
We aim to keep the Service running, but it may be unavailable for maintenance, upgrades, or reasons outside our control — a provider outage, a bank's systems, a network failure. We may add, change, or remove features. If we discontinue the Service entirely, we will give reasonable notice and a way to export your data.
The Service depends on providers including Plaid, our AI provider, our email provider, our payment processors, and the app stores. We are not responsible for their acts, outages, or terms, and your use of their services is governed by their own agreements with you.
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE, OR THAT ANY DATA, CALCULATION, PROJECTION, OR AI OUTPUT WILL BE ACCURATE, COMPLETE, CURRENT, OR SUITABLE FOR YOUR SITUATION.
Some states do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties. Where that is the case, the exclusions above apply only to the extent permitted, and you may have rights these Terms cannot limit.
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, MONEY MOONSHOT LLC AND ITS MEMBERS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND CONTRACTORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, LOST SAVINGS, LOST DATA, INVESTMENT LOSSES, MISSED PAYMENTS, OVERDRAFT OR LATE FEES, OR HARM TO CREDIT, ARISING FROM OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE — EVEN IF WE WERE ADVISED THAT SUCH DAMAGES WERE POSSIBLE.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF (A) THE TOTAL AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) FIFTY U.S. DOLLARS ($50).
These limits do not apply to liability that cannot be limited by law — including fraud, willful misconduct, or gross negligence — and some states do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
If your misuse of the Service, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of the law leads to a third-party claim against us, you agree to cover the reasonable costs and damages we incur from it. We will tell you promptly about any such claim and let you take part in its defense.
You can stop using the Service at any time, and you can delete your account from Settings. We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms, if your use creates legal or security risk, or if we discontinue the Service. Where circumstances allow, we will give you notice and a chance to export your data first. If we terminate your account without cause while you hold a paid subscription, we will refund the unused portion of the current period for a subscription you bought on our website. For a subscription bought inside the iOS or Android app we have no ability to issue a refund — only Apple or Google can — so in that case we will request a refund on your behalf and support your claim, without being able to guarantee their decision. Sections that by their nature should survive — the disclaimers, the liability limits, your responsibility to us, and governing law — survive termination.
We may update these Terms as the Service changes. We will update the effective date above, and for material changes we will give you at least 30 days' notice by email or in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the updated Terms; if you would rather not, stop using the Service and delete your account before they take effect.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising from or relating to these Terms or the Service will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Spokane County, Washington, and you and we each consent to their jurisdiction. Nothing here stops either of us from bringing a claim in small-claims court, and nothing waives any right you have under Washington consumer-protection law.
If any part of these Terms is unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. Not enforcing a provision once does not waive it. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between us about the Service. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms; we may transfer ours in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, and we will tell you if that happens.
Questions about these Terms? Reach us through the in-app contact form (Settings → Contact us). Leave your email address in the form so we can reply.
