Delete your account and data

You can delete your Money Moonshot account yourself, at any time, from any browser. You do not need to install the app and you do not need to ask us.

Delete it yourself — the fastest way

  1. Open moneymoonshot.com/app and sign in.
  2. Go to Settings → Account → Delete my account.
  3. Type your password, then tap Permanently delete.

The same three steps work inside the iOS and Android app.

Open Money Moonshot and sign in

What deletion actually does

Backups are not instant. We take one encrypted snapshot of the whole database every night and delete snapshots older than 14 days. That means your data can remain inside an encrypted backup for up to 15 days after you delete your account, before it is purged automatically. The key that decrypts a backup is never written into the backup, so a backup file on its own is not readable — but the backups, the live database and the keys all sit on the same server, so that protects you against a stolen backup file, not against someone who gets into the server. We keep no off-site copy, and backups are used only to restore the service after a failure.

If you cannot sign in

Try Forgot password? on the sign-in screen first — a reset code goes to the email address on the account, and that gets you back in so you can delete it yourself in seconds.

If that does not work, ask us here and we will delete it for you. Use the email address the account was created with, so we can match the request to the account.

A request sent here is a message to a human, not an automatic delete. We will verify that you control the address before we remove anything, and we aim to act within a few days. Deleting it yourself in the app is immediate — prefer that if you can.

Trying the demo?

The demo does not create an account for you and never asks for your email. Tap Exit demo and the temporary demo account and everything in it are deleted. Demo sessions also expire on their own after 2 hours.
